Utilizing AVID’s in-house time-tested vehicle design software suite, we build models that are used in the simulation of ducted fan, traditional fixed wing, and hybrid vehicles. These simulations are built on detailed subsystems which are modeled individually and can be simulated separately as needed.
We utilize these tools to make the design process effective and efficient from the component level to the fleet level. We have established a center of technical excellence in conceptual design, and have validated tools utilized on craft flying in our airspace today.
AVID can also create models based on experimental data, as described in Wind Tunnel Testing. Such models are suitable for high-fidelity vehicle simulation and control law development. AVID provides 6-degrees-of-freedom (6-DOF) simulation capabilities based on computed or wind tunnel aerodynamic models (CAM or WAM, respectively). Simulations are developed in MATLAB and Simulink and can be used to develop flight control laws and assess vehicle maneuvering or navigation.
Because we can model a vehicle and simulate flight performance, our tools are also utilized for sensor applications. From displaying the real output of a variety of cameras on a variety of UAVs to determine the best sensor/UAV combination for a given mission to determining the acceptable weight, appropriate positioning, field of view, field of regard, and component placement of collision avoidance systems , our tools can give you the answers you need.
